The LEAD Business Case Competition program is excellent for students who want to build a foundation in financial literacy. It will provide high school students with a crash course in the world of economics, business, and markets. Students who are interested in pursuing majors with a future of entering the business world will get a strong idea of the types of problems they will solve. Non-business-focused students will develop their ability to think strategically, develop strong critical thinking, and hone their presentation skills.


Instructor

Christian Kim is a Product Manager at Google where he transforms machine learning and artificial intelligence into products, bringing delight to billions of users worldwide. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Economics, History, and Film & Television from UCLA where he was a member of the Consulting Club.

Prerequisites

  • This program is open to students in grades 9-12.

  • No prior experience or business knowledge is necessary

Takeaways

In the Business Case Competition program, students will: 

  • Learn to analyze a company or industry

  • Define, structure, build, and present a business presentation

  • Compete in a college-style business case competition

Program Details

In the LEAD Business Case Competition program, students will build familiarity with major topics in finance and learn to to communicate with others about market movements to the depth of explaining the importance of the financial market. Students will learn key accounting and finance terms in addition to analyzing the basic financials of a company and perform a strategic analysis of a company or industry.

The course will culminate with students taking what they have learned over the previous 7 weeks and applying it in a college-style business case study competition. Students will have a chance to engage and collaborate with peers to put together a thorough presentation deck, in which they will break down a business problem, analyze public information, assess the industry, recommend a solution, and defend their position to a panel of judges made up of current finance professionals.

Students will learn through a combination of lectures, readings, and hands-on activities. They will also have the opportunity to Q&A with professionals from different business verticals and financial institutions. This course is a great opportunity for students to learn about the world of finance and business and will provide them with skills they need to be successful not only in college, but also throughout their careers.
