Students who attend Rancho Bernardo, Mount Carmel, Westview, and other Poway Unified schools in San Diego no longer need to drive to Del Mar to attend Elite—they have an Elite office right in their own neighborhood. "For years we have had families from Rancho Bernardo driving all the way to Del Mar to attend Elite," says San Diego Director Chris Hamilton. "Today, many of our students can walk to their new Elite office." In fact, it is the teachers and even the Director who will do the driving. "Many of our Senior Teachers—including all of our 2100 teachers—will be teaching at both offices this summer," says Hamilton. "Several of our Senior Teachers will spend all of their summers at Rancho Bernardo—and I am splitting my time equally between the two offices." Located near the 4S Ranch neighborhood, the new office is comfortable, and beautifully appointed. "We want all of our offices to feel like a quiet refuge for our students," says Hamilton. "But the new Rancho Bernardo office is particularly nice. Who knows? Perhaps we'll see a few Torrey Pines students making the drive to Rancho Bernardo this summer."

Planning Your SAT Subject Test Schedule

While most high school juniors are focused on preparing for the upcoming March 2008 SAT Reasoning Test, they should also look ahead and plan to take their SAT Subject Tests before the end of the junior year.

Do I need to take Subject Tests? If so, how many Subject Tests do I need to take?
Students applying to the University of California and most private colleges must submit two SAT Subject Test scores. Given the competitive nature of admissions to elite colleges and universities, students are advised to take an additional Subject Test or two beyond the minimum number of Subject Tests required.

What Subject Tests should I take?
SAT Subject Tests are offered in Biology, Chemistry, Foreign Language, Literature, Math Level 2, Physics, US History and World History. Students should consider taking Subject Tests in the subjects that they are currently studying in high school, particularly if the school courses are advanced level and they have performed well in these courses. In addition, colleges may require specific Subject Tests for admissions to particular majors. For example, students applying to major in engineering usually need to take Subject Tests in math and science.

When should I take the Subject Tests?
Generally, students should take a Subject Test as soon as they complete their high school course in that subject. This is particularly advisable for subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and United States History. Typically, students take Subject Tests during the test administrations in May and June.

How do I prepare for the Subject Tests?
Learning the subjects well in high school courses will provide students with a good foundation for performing well on the Subject Tests. In addition, students should take many practice tests to understand what is covered in the Subject Tests and to hone their test-taking skills. A good way to prepare for the Subject Tests is to enroll in the SAT Subject Test preparation courses offered at Elite.
