Elite Book Club
Many students do little reading on their own, putting themselves at a disadvantage. The Elite Book Club is designed to give students a structured environment in which they can read widely and improve all their funamental verbal skills: critical reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar.
The Book Club uses popular and educational works of literature and nonfiction to teach vocabulary, hone critical reading skills, explain grammatical concepts, and promote consistent writing. These are exactly the skills necessary for success in high school, on the new SAT Reasoning Test, and in college.
Elite Math Clinic
The Elite Math Clinic is designed to help students master the concepts and problem-solving techniques in the Pre-Algebra to Algebra II sequence. The math clinic is composed of four classes: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. Each class presents the principles appropriate to a specific math level in a clear, easy-to-understand format. Students then apply these math principles to carefully constructed word problems and exercises developed to sharpen problem-solving skills and reinforce conceptual understanding at the same time.
Reading and Writing Clinic
The Elite Reading and Writing Clinic is an engaging program designed to bolster students' reading and writing skills. The program uses unusual Time for Kids articles to augment reading comprehension skills and stimulate high interest in nonfiction reading material. The writing component focuses not only on fundamental mechanics but also challenges students with a variety of writing assignments in the four primary writing genres: persuasive, narrative, visual presentation, and expository, all in a 'kid-friendly' format.
ISEE/SSAT
For elementary and middle school students planning to apply to private schools, we offer a specialized course designed to prepare students for the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) and Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT). Classes are demanding, with considerable homework and in-class assignments.
