ABOUT THE ACT

In recent years, the ACT has become the most widely administered college entrance exam in the U.S. When making admissions decisions, colleges and universities consider applicants’ ACT scores in addition to a number of other factors, including GPA, extracurricular activities, personal statements, letters of recommendation, and interviews.

The test consists of four multiple-choice tests covering the subjects of English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science, and an optional Writing section. Students are given 3 hours and 35 minutes to complete the entire ACT, including the Writing section.

The ACT is offered six times each year in September, October, December, February, April, and June. Students of all ages are eligible to take the ACT. Many students take the ACT in their junior year and often retake it in the fall of their senior year.
